Dr. Pettit is a board-certified ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist who has been practicing for 35 years. He is a graduate of Stanford University, UCI Medical School, and UC San Francisco. Dr. Pettit has taught auditory theory and the diagnosis of dizziness for years at UCSF. While in residency training he was a member of the original cochlear implant team, helping establish electrical stimulation of the inner ear as the cure for patients with total deafness. While embracing the technological advances which have transformed his specialty, he still retains the bedside manner from a bygone era, getting to know each of his patients as individuals and taking the time to understand their unique experience and perspective.

Dr. Pettit’s primary treatment interests are diseases of the ear: hearing loss, dizziness, and balance disturbances.

The Long White Coat, Death Can Wait

By C. Robert Pettit, MD

Beyond his 35 years of medical practice, Dr. Pettit has channeled his extensive healthcare experience into fiction writing. His medical mystery novel, The Long White Coat, Death Can Wait, transports readers to 1970s San Francisco, offering an authentic glimpse into the complex world of medicine during a transformative era in healthcare.

Drawing from real clinical encounters and the ethical challenges physicians face, this compelling story explores the human drama that unfolds within hospital walls. Written with the same attention to detail that characterizes his patient care, Dr. Pettit's novel provides both entertainment and insight into the demanding yet rewarding world of healthcare from a physician's unique perspective.
